We have taken a step back from our original project but we have been busy with another. We have been participating at Woodland Terrace filling out life books for the residents families to have when they pass away, This experience has been great as I also work there so I already know all the residents by name. I have finished a book with a resident already and I learned a lot, whether it is about their life or just society when they were younger. I would like to thank Caralee Griffith and Woodland Terrace for the opportunity and for allowing me to help. Moving forward, Ms. Arnold got us in touch with Mrs. Brandy Ley from Sugar Creek Elementary School, and Ms. Desi Leal from New Palestine Elementary. We're currently planning times with them so that we could hopefully get into a few classes and lessons before the end of the school year! I am excited for the potential in class times with these schools.

Today we had an in class lesson with Mrs. Gabehart's kindergarten class. We performed the same activity as our previous lesson to get a shared experience between the students. This activity challenged the students to work together on top of the individual skills the activity would require. Some of the students would get frustrated but would get assisted by a group mate allowing them to learn the value of teamwork. Besides the lessons that would be learned, the students had fun while working with the activity and their classmates making this visit successful. We're thankful for the cooperation of Mrs. Gabehart and for allowing us to come in during her class time. We're also thankful to Mr. Theobald for allowing us to come to Brandywine Elementary to spread the word of STEM. Today we visited Ms. Aldridge class and went through the mouse code and go activity that we set up. We aimed the activity to challenge cooperation skills with others while also challenging them mentally to get through the activity. We had the students set up mazes in groups, test them, and then work to solve other groups mazes. The kids would sometimes find themselves getting frustrated either with the activity or with their group mates. Though, they would learn to help each other and cooperate more effectively showing that the activity would prove to be beneficial in opening the door to cooperation and problem solving skills. The class was great in participation as well as their manners and we plan on attending Ms. Aldridges class again. We're thankful for Ms. Aldridge for allowing us to come into her class, Ms. Arnold connecting us with teachers, and Mr. Theobald for letting us come into his school.
We're currently planning on moving forward by approaching more teachers and classrooms. We currently have plans on in-class lessons with more classes in Brandywine. We have arranged class setups with Ms. Arnold including Ms. Gabehart & Ms. Aldridge. We also plan on revisiting Mrs. Patterson since we have been requested to come back. We have great plans ahead of us including a mouse code and go for the kindergarteners to apply what they've recently learned in library time. We have been formulating our next lesson fine tuning the structure to best explain to the kids how an assignment will go. Presentation created by : Matthew Everett & Cameron Mann Our lesson plan is to have the students be able to work together & also independently think through a maze and what instructions to give the mouse. This lesson is to teach trial and error but feel more rewarded when finished. We also plan on allowing them create their own mazes so that they can challenge their fellow classmates.
We visited Brandywine Elementary and led our first activity with the kids from Mrs. Pattersons class. We hosted an activity utilizing Ozobots that would require the groups of kids to collaborate together and use critical thinking skills to devise a plan. Due to it being the day after Halloween, the activity was spooky themed and required the kids to collect bones to make a skeleton. We had an amazing time with the kids and we learned many things including what some of their future dreams are. We also had a great time talking about their future dreams and how it ties into STEM. We are excited to say that we're already planning our next date to be with the kids, thank you again to Mr. Theobald and Ms. Arnold for letting us have this experience. Link to a twitter post Mr. Theobald created about our visit: https://twitter.com/BWE_Principal/status/1719738089151594655 A photo collage of photos of our experience taken by Mr. Theobald We met with Mrs. Arnold again to finalize plans and to have a path for our in class experience. Out of this, we have planned to have our first in class volunteer opportunity to be on November 1st. We will be working with small robots called Ozobots on a fun activity that we will be creating. The activity will be fall themed due to the season and may involve something with a corn maze. We're thankful for how helpful Mrs. Arnold has been during our journey and also to Mr. Theobald for giving us access to his building. Check out a post on twitter made about us!Check out a post on the Greenfield reporter made about us & our class! After our pitch day project, we gathered more connections as we contacted and connected with Mr. Smith who is our county's director of communication and community outreach. We also got with Mr. Hercamp, Mr. Young, Mr. Dinwiddie, and Mr. Theobald to have a separate meeting to discuss our future plans and ideas. We were able to discuss and get more information about some potential directions of our project and also how to go forward. Out of this meeting we would get the curriculum that we could use and also get the idea of meeting with Mrs. Arnold, who is the media center coordinator for Brandywine elementary. We discussed with her about the ideas we had and she gave us feedback on what we could adapt to in what they're doing at school. We were also able to check out the large inventory of different educational tools that we can use during out lessons. We now plan on having meetings with the other schools to see if we can incorporate a similar experience between all of the schools, so as they grow older and move to the intermediate or junior high, they will be able to have an experience thats common with one another. Moving forward, we plan to have our first class experience with Mrs. Arnold either before fall break or shortly after. We're grateful for Mr. Theobald, the principle of Brandywine elementary, for letting us come into his school and meet with Mrs. Arnold, and overall being excited and open armed towards our project. We're also thankful for all of the admins that have been guiding us through this process and getting us to where we need to be so that we can have a lasting impact on the school corporation. Photos of Matthew Everett and Cameron Mann meeting with Mrs. ArnoldOther ThanksThank you also to NP TV, another service project that is in place that was sent with us by Mr. Smith to take photos and get us vulnerable to attention by schools in the county.
Check them out below: https://nphsnickbarada.weebly.com/ We had our pitch day where we presented our projects to the administration that was able to attend. There Matthew Everett had to present alone since Cameron Mann unfortunately could not be able to attend from being ill. The pitch day went really well with great feedback of offers to provide supplies and also would even end with connecting with Mr. Hercamp who is the director of instruction, director of technology, and director of school safety for our county. With these connections, we're excited for what this project can continue on to be and strive to do! The slideshow that was presented at the Pitch Day!
